This initiative will position students and athletes to become more self-aware by uncovering how to recognize their emotions, see themselves honestly, identify their personal strengths and weaknesses, and develop a growth mindset that allows them to see beyond their sport and what they may be limited to. The development of the student must extend past just the academic and physical spheres. For students to be able to truly excel in those areas, they must have a realistic understanding of themselves and what they are capable of. When our students do not truly comprehend their abilities, they make assumptions about what they can do based on external factors. These false assumptions can cause one’s internal self to remain unexplored and undeveloped, leading to the formation of negative emotions around self-worth that cannot be easily articulated. When we do not have the tools to understand and work through these emotions, they can limit us.
